Turkey Point Canal Filling: Turning basin & Turtle point

OWNER: FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT

This project focused on restoring two canals to improve water quality by elevating their beds using imported aggregate. A total of 230,000 tons of fill material was transported from a supply location and initially stored on a waterside stockpile via a stacker/conveyor system. This material was then meticulously dredged from the stockpile and accurately placed at the required elevations using barge-mounted equipment.

Given the environmentally sensitive nature of the area, the project required comprehensive turbidity control measures. These efforts were successful in maintaining water clarity, adhering to a strict 0.0 NTU turbidity standard, ensuring minimal environmental impact while enhancing the canals’ functionality.
